Sculptural Wooden Game Tables

Chess, backgammon, ludo, and multi-game tables built at the scale of a room and finished to the tolerance of a fine instrument.

A game table is furniture with a purpose: to gather people, and to keep them. Ours are conceived as sculpture first and playing surface second, so they earn their place in a room whether or not a game is in progress.

Each table is built from solid hardwood using traditional joinery, its playing surface inlaid by hand. We make dedicated chess and backgammon tables, monumental ludo tables, and multi-game designs that quietly hold several games within a single object.

The games, and the tables we build for them

A great game table begins with the game. A chess table is sized and proportioned around the board, its height judged for long play and its surface inlaid square by square. A backgammon table carries its points in contrasting woods, often beneath glass or set into a recessed, felt-lined well. A ludo or multi-game table hides its versatility: one surface for guests, another revealed for play. Whatever the game, the table is built around it rather than the other way round.

Built to gather

Proportion is everything. A game table must invite you to sit, reach, and linger without crowding the room. We scale each design to its setting — the height of the chairs, the reach across the board, the space to move around it — and finish every edge by hand, so the table reads as architecture rather than accessory. It should feel as considered empty as it does mid-game.

Solid wood and honest joinery

There are no shortcuts in a table meant to last. Frames are cut and joined with traditional joinery, not screwed together; surfaces are solid hardwood, not veneer over board; and every junction is fitted by hand so the piece moves as one. This is slower and more demanding, and it is the reason a LEGNORY table can be used daily for decades and, if ever needed, repaired rather than replaced.

The backgammon table

Backgammon rewards a beautiful board. We build dedicated backgammon tables and cabinets with points inlaid in contrasting hardwoods, generous wells for the checkers, and turned pieces to match. Some are illuminated, the board glowing through resin and wood; others are classically inlaid and understated. Each is a table you will want to leave set up, ready for the next game.

Giant and garden games

Not every game belongs indoors. Our largest tables and sets bring the same craft to a monumental scale — a giant ludo for a garden terrace, an outsized board for a hall or gallery. Turned from seasoned hardwood and finished to endure a shared, open space, they turn a game into an event and a garden into a place people gather.

Choosing your wood

The wood sets the table's character. Sheesham gives weight and a deep, warm grain; walnut a quieter, refined richness; oak a paler, architectural presence. Playing surfaces are often a study in contrast — dark and light woods inlaid together, with pale maple for bright squares and, for the rarest pieces, rosewood. We help you match the table to its room and to the way you live with it.

An heirloom for the home

Solid wood, cut and joined properly, lasts for generations and grows more beautiful with use. Cared for simply, a LEGNORY game table becomes the surface a family returns to for decades — the place a child learns to play and later inherits. Each is individually numbered and delivered with a Certificate of Provenance.

Caring for your table

Dust with a soft, dry cloth and keep the table out of direct heat and prolonged sun. Use mats under drinks, and refresh the wood with a natural oil once or twice a year. Small marks are part of a well-loved table's story; the surface can always be re-oiled back into the whole.

Every game table can be commissioned to your exact dimensions, wood, and games. To begin, tell us about the room and the way you play.
